8 Benefits of Thai Massage

8 benefits of Thai Massage

We hope that this post helps you to understand some of the benefits of Thai Massage, these were the first eight that came to mind, as you can imagine there are many many more, we hope they encourage you to get a massage soon !!

1 Thai Massage reaches the parts other massages don’t reach

A traditional Thai Massage works through the layers of the body, starting with the skin before moving through the varying layers of the fascia (or muscle) before getting to the sen and then into the bones and joints, this leads to the massage becoming a very deep tissue massage experience.

2 Thai massage promotes a sense of calm

During your treatment your massage therapist will work in a rhythmic fashion during some of the treatment, almost a rocking motion which can promote a real sense of calmness – near meditative for some. This can lead to a real sense of relaxation and after effects can be improved sleep patterns.

3 Thai massage can help boost energy levels

During a Thai massage treatment the massage therapist will gradually begin to work on the Sen which in Thai medicine is the carrier of energy around the body. They will look for areas in the body that are blocked and work to release these to help promote energy-flow around the body. This can lead to a feeling of coolness in the short term but improved energy levels if practiced on a regular basis.

4 Thai massage can reduce stress levels

High stress levels can lead to serious illnesses such as depression and heart disease so it is essential that your stress levels are managed effectively. Thai massage uses techniques that have been shown to reduce stress markers when tested.

5 Massage can improve blood circulation

Good blood circulation is vital if you suffer from illnesses such as diabetes, but for improved health in general circulation is key.

In Thai massage the gentle stretching and mobilising can improve the oxygen levels in the blood and improve circulation. The stretching will also help the muscles to work more effective and help with balance which can begin to falter as we get older.

6 Massage can improve joint mobility

During the Thai Massage we work to release tightness in muscles, tendons and ligaments which hold the joints together. This in turn helps your connective tissues to function more effectively. Over the longer term improvements to the range of movement happens with regular treatments and the synovial fluid found in the joints can have increased levels which will lead to less friction within the joint itself.

7 Thai Massage can help with osteoporosis

As we age our bones become more porous, this is especially in post menopausal women. This can lead to breaking bones easier which is not desired. However in a 2013 study ( https://bmccomplementmedtherapies.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1472-6882-13-69) it was found that bone density levels rose over a 4 week period when clients had a Thai Massage twice a week.

8 Massage can create an emotional release

You may have heard the phrase that you hold onto your emotions, well often during a Thai Massage these emotions are unlocked from the muscles where they are held, which in turn leads to a feeling of release of the weight that they can hold – tears sometimes follow which is fine – as they are normally followed by a smile.
