Pregnancy Massage
A pregnancy massage can be an absolute treat for you both before the birth an in the months afterwards to help your body adjust to being a mum.
You are doing this amazing thing, but your body is adapting and sometimes you don’t know what is going to happen to it next.
Initially you will start to notice your hips changing shape, they may become painful – it’s a condition called PGP and can make it painful to walk and generally move around due to clicking and grinding in the hip and pelvic area. The link I’ve added gives some great advice for how to alleviate this.
Our top 7 reasons for getting a pregnancy massage
As baby starts to grow the back will begin to be put under strain – especially the lower back from around 11-12 weeks which can make sleeping on your back an issue, but the simple things like just sitting often becomes really uncomfortable and you begin to fidget a lot.
And then we come onto water retention and swelling of the limbs around joints which could lead to a serious condition of preeclampsia, but for most just causes a large amount of discomfort and makes walking really difficult..
As you get closer to birth you also have the mental things to think about, it can be amazing to see little hands and feet sticking out of your belly, but how will the birth go? Will it be natural or will you need a C-Section? Will forceps be required to deliver? Will you even make it to the delivery room? Will baby even want to come out? The stress levels can rise and this can cause your blood pressure to rise, some mothers have used the word terrified to describe this feeling even though they knew it would work out ok. The Positive Birth Company have a brilliant course on hypnobirthing which can really help you to manage the associated mental stresses with giving birth.
And then you give birth and the hard work really begins;
- The backache caused by breastfeeding,
- the tiredness and sleep deprivation,
- using muscles you haven’t used before allowing the body time to recover from giving birth
- the emotional rollercoaster of seeing something so precious so upset and not always knowing why.
However please don’t lose sight of the fact that you are doing something amazing and it is a really special time for you and your body.
A Thai massage whilst pregnant can be a real treat, its interesting in the West it isn’t the norm, but luckily in Thailand it is and Thai Massage is very nurturing.
Thai massage is designed to help the body work more efficiently and whilst pregnant is a luscious experience.

First of all we work on the side and bump gets fully supported too, I can massage you from head to foot focusing on areas that you identify as need more work than others – so the back, neck and shoulders.
I work slowly at a pace that is designed to promote relaxation and rest, to give you time to pause, breathe and relax.
We don’t use oil, I know that sometimes massaging with oils can cause allergic reactions which can be compounded by pregnancy.
And lastly we work through the clothes, we ask that you wear loose clothing when you come for treatment, just so you are more comfortable and don’t have to worry about getting undressed.
I would love to massage you at this special time, a pregnancy massage is a real privilege to perform and if you need to relax post birth we can help to reset the body and give you that time to breath whilst being treated.
