Thai bodywork or Thai massage adjusts ‘Sen’ so the wind element can move around the body – but what is Sen?

Thai bodywork or massage is based on the philosophy that there are a system of pathways in the body known as ‘Sen’, all living beings have energy flowing through these pathways interconnecting and moving sensations from one place to another, these pathways allow the ‘the wind of life’ (known as Lom Pran in Thai) to flow giving breath & life to the body.

If these pathways become blocked then mental, physical, emotional, or spiritual imbalances my develop. Using pressure along these pathways results in them opening and releasing the energy flow more consistently around the body which has untold health benefits, it can alleviate common ailments such as back pain, headaches, arthritis through to menstrual pain and even stress related conditions.

Releasing the ‘Sen’ pathways allows you to feel more invigorated and full of ‘the wind of life’ placing you in a state of relaxation and centred wellbeing.

How does it work/What to expect?

The energy pathways are located in all areas of the body some areas may require more focus that others, In Traditional Thai Massage, the practitioner will stretch, palm, thumb, adjust and massage this network of pathways using their hands, knees, elbows or feet, doing this will allow the ‘the wind of life’ to move freely, through the different pathways and unblock areas of strain, not only on an energetic level, but also releasing built up tensions in our muscles and joints, even old traumas embedded into the physical body can be unblocked through Sen (working the energy pathways).

The Sen is the third layer of the body treated in a traditional Thai Bodywork session and for some clients may not be reached due to the body not being ready to accept the treatment, so the focus would be to enable the body to work towards this in future sessions.

If you have a previous or new injury, or any part of your body is particularly sensitive, be sure to let your practitioner know before they start the bodywork session.
